“An old vicarage, just 11 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station, with 5 star amenities. A typical Dutch setting with monumental buildings set around a small lake. 400 years ago this was the first stop for the ships carrying their cargo of tobacco, wines, sugars and many other products for trading with the Dutch. This is perhaps one of the most authentic places around Amsterdam”.
Thus reads the website of Inn on the Lake, a Bed and Breakfast in the picturesque town of Broek in Waterland.
And the website is right!
We were lucky enough to experience a night there when friends of ours got married in Broek in Waterland last year. The decor is absolutely stunning as is the location, right on the lake with the church as a dramatic back drop on landside. In the morning we were served breakfast on the outside terrace overlooking the lake, and just did not want to leave.
Rates, starting at Euro 130, are very reasonable.
The lady running the Inn on the Lake is American. This is most noticable in the way the beds are made, as the picture above shows. Americans have a flair for making beds look and feel extremely comfortable and chic. A recent post detailed my quest for the ultimate bedskirt, as seen on many beds while traveling through California last year.
