World´s most expensive home: Antilia

Imagine a home with 27 stories worth 1 billion dollars boasting several roof gardens, a private theatre, a ballroom, a private parking garage for several hundred cars, guest quarters, staff quarters, a tennis court, a two-story gym, several pools and a helicopter pad equipped for three helicopters. It was built just last year in the Indian city of Mumbai.

This 21st Century tower of Babel is home to India´s richest, and world 4th richest man Mukesh Ambani. He lives there with his wife and three children. It is hardly a home anymore with more, much more, floor space than the Palace of Versailles, but it was built as a private residence….

Some critics say architects Perkins & Will were a bit too inspired by the work of Dutch architecture firm MVRDV. Their Dutch pavilion for the 2000 Hannover Expo looks quite similar. Do you agree?

Oops, I’m moving again

What a little rehab and time on the couch can do for you huh? Well, it might not immediately revamp your career but it does make you want to start fresh. Thus proves pop sensation has-been Britney Spears. She reportedly paid $12,900.000 for this ultra-luxurious pad in Hidden Hills California.

Her house is huge! A staggering 9,107 square feet, which roughly translates to 850 m2. It has 10 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms, a ball room, two staff apartments, guest quarters, a wine cellar, chef’s kitchen and a games room. The landscaped garden boasts a tennis court, a pool and several hot tubs.

Hidden hills is a private, gated community for the über rich and wealthy. Britney will be hooding it up with the Kardashians, the Osbournes and Melissa Etheridge to name a few. As it is gated, paparazzi won’t be following her every move or shave.

There’s no place like Judy’s

Hollywood history was written by the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Fred Astaire, Greta Garbo, Humphrey Bogard and Judy Garland. These people once partied in the same streets now frequented by the new Hollywood Royalty. Their former homes now often owned by anonymous owners. Every now and then one of them is up for sale as was the case with Ms Monroe’s home not too long ago. And now Judy Garland’s former residence is up for grabs. Grabs worth $5,5 million that is….

Miami Vice meets Rococo

London-based design duo Jimmie Martin designed this überkitsch rococo inspired chair.

It is part of a collection with chests, chairs, headboards and dining sets all decorated with prints that have very little to do with Rococo but somehow match wonderfully.

Jimmie Martin Ltd is an established luxury brand based in London since 2004. Working with private, commercial and high profile clients. Jimmie Martin Provides an eclectic showcase of one-off pieces of furniture combining the decadent and quirky with the nostalgic and urban. All pieces are individually finished off to either the customer’s personal taste, or to the ideas of the founders, Jimmie and Martin.

Design media rave about their designs: “There is a rare consistency of sophisticated pieces combined with a sexy, modern design element.”

In June 2005 Jimmie Martin Ltd won the award for best “New Designer in Practice” at the Design and Decorations Awards 2005. Jimmie Martin was also nominated as a finalist in the furniture design category.
