A railway depot turned into a lovely home

I love this house that Elle Decor featured on their website recently. Jeweler Federico de Vera revamped an abandoned railway station into this marvelous and very stylish home. Read the rest of the story here.

Railway station turned home

Mind you; it’s his weekend home. It inspires me to rethink my plans for our cottage. It’s lovely as it is, but can do with a bit of a spruce up. It’s still a bit too cluttered and I am not sure I can still fool myself into thinking the faux-wood paneling has a Mad Men feel to it. Maybe a lick of white paint on the wall for a start…

our cottage. I was thinking white for the walls and a darker colour for the window panes

And maybe a slate grey for the outside with white for the window panes and doors. And a red and white scheme for the shutters….

Wicker; trend to be left in the Golden Girls’ home? Or on its way back?

Remember the Golden Girls? Off course you do. We just sat through ALL seasons again and loved them. And not just for the stories. I absolutely loved seeing that decor again. I remember loving those pastels when I saw the show first as a kid. The pale blues, tappid greens, peach pinks, matte beiges and the wicker… the wicker everywhere. But I want to bet you that wicker is hard on its way for a massive come back if it hasn’t arrived yet. And I think there will be enough room for a serious nod to the shoulder pad days. And I even think some relatives of the same pastels will be joining….

So maybe not exactly like this………

But more like this…

Yes I know, not wicker but ratan. Who made you king of woven furniture?

Don’t remember or know Lloyd Loom yet? Make a note of that name. It’s coming back!

Want to join me on the lanai?

Now where did I see these chairs before…….

Aah, yes….

In that case……

There you go….

I wonder what’s next…

Pink arches, glass beds, white high gloss tables and beige leather anyone?

Bloom – Baby products that are both functional and stylish!

A recent study in the Netherlands shows that 82% of parents are annoyed by the sheer inexhaustible amount of necessary baby-products that fill the house with the arrival of a baby. Most of the time these products are made of sensible plastics that are produced to last forever, but not to look pretty. Especially those parents who spent a lot of time decorating their home to a certain standard.

Funny enough, especially the dads out there would like to see products that are both functional and appealing. 50% of them say they think there is room for improvement there. Bloom, a company founded by 4 fathers, agrees. They design baby products that target trend- and style-conscious parents with a range of furniture that adheres to both quality and an attractive package. The products have been very popular in the USA and Canada for quite some time now. Many Hollywood stars like Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, the Kardashians and Orlando Bloom (what’s in a name) are fans. But the products are taking other parts of the world by storm too.

Check out the website of Todd Selby… now!

You are going to hate me for this because for the next couple of hours, you’ll be staring at your screen. Photographer, illustrator and journalist Todd Selby’s website The Selby is extremely addictive. His photographic portraits of homes and the people who live there are very inspiring.

If online is not enough for you, you might want to consider Todd Selby’s book, available here at Homevoyeurs.

The Selby Is in Your Place was conceived when fashion and interiors photographer Todd Selby began taking portraits of dynamic and creative people—authors, musicians, artists, and designers—in their home environments and posting them on his web site. Nosy by nature, he wanted to see how personal style was reflected in private spaces. Lucky for us, he found his answer in the color-rich and eclectic quarters of a diverse group of subjects, including Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler, Faris Rotter, Andre Walker, and Olivier Zahm, in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Sydney, and London. Each profile is accompanied by Selby’s watercolor portraits of the subjects and objects from their homes, and illustrated questionnaires, which Selby asks each sitter to fill out. This book consists of over thirty profiles, many of which have never-before-seen, selected exclusively for the book. The result is a collection of unique spaces bursting with energy and personality that together create a colorful hodgepodge of inspirational interiors.

Comfortable ‘marble’ chair carved out of… silk?

This wonderful chair looks anything but comfortable. But it is! Designers  Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman used 100% silk for the outer material of the chair, and applying it over a polyurethane foam structure. This created the illusion of it being carved from a single piece of marble, while giving it the comfort of any great old chair. It is aptly called the Louis XV Goes to Sparta Chair

Ikea dollhouse collection

This is cool! Ikea is about to launch part of their collection in miniature dollhouse size! The Swedish retail giant decided on this after a poll showed kids wanted a more modern interior for their dolls too. Since forever, I have been pondering on an idea to start a modern and exclusive line of dollhouse furniture. But if Ikea is already zoning in on this with their cheap and mass-produced collection, I might have missed the boat?

The dollhouse furniture set is called Huset. It features the Klippan sofa, Lack table, Expedit shelving unit, Stockholm rug, Famnig Hjärta pillow and Vago chair.

It will be available from early August, when Ikea launches its 2014 catalogue, and will be priced at around $19,- / €9,99
