Brazilian artist recreates ‘Gilmore Girls’ town out of paper!

OK, so this might harm my image a little bit, but I watched Gilmore Girls. There, I said it.

The dialogues irritated me, the French gay guy was so phony it was annoying, most of the characters were dull and the girls actually pushed my wrong buttons too. But OH MY LORD those houses! Talking about your American Dream. This was before Desperate Housewives, so I had yet to see the homes on Wisteria Lane, but I wanted to live in Stars Hollow, I really did.

Stars Hollow aerial view. Not sure what town they used. If anybody knows, please let me know.

It off course is not a real town. In fact, it is a backlot at Warner Brothers studio’s called ‘Midwest Street, built in the 1940’s for the movie Saratoga Trunk. However, the town in the show was inspired by Washington Depot Connecticut, when producer Amy Sherman- Palladino spent a night in the local inn. A lot of the filming for the pilot and some later used street shots was done in Unionville Ontario, Canada.

Brazilian artist Bruna Salvador Conforto, must have been watching in equal awe, yet she managed to use her inspiration for something more tangible. Some of you might know her for her recreation of the apartment from Friends.. in paper! That already was quite the achievement, but it wasn’t enough for Bruna. Her latest project is, you guessed it, a paper version of Stars Hollow!

Daybeds to escape those everlasting winter blues

Not sure what the weather is like in your neck of the woods but here it’s, pardon my French, crap. It’s been snowing wet sleet-like nonsense for a couple of days now, where we usually would have been enjoying spring already. Needless to say, with this type of weather getting out of bed is just that little bit harder. So with the weekend coming up, and no sun on the horizon, what better time to get inspired by …..daybeds?

Have a yabbadabbadoo time in this house in Malibu!

Had to post this. It’s been done before for sure, or at least contemplated, and I still think the architects of Maison Bulles in Théoule-sur-Mer France were inspired by the Flinstones, or possibly the Jetsons. But never have I seen a house so in keep with the theme as this one. It’s in Malibu, off course it is. TV host Dick Clark  decided to put it on the market shortly before his death in April this year. My guess is that the asking price of ‘only’ $3,500,000 is because it is not everybody’s taste. Cause if it is, and you’re rich, than the house with its magical ocean views is yours for a price well under what the neighbours paid!

Floor plans of famous TV homes by Brandi Roberts and Inaki Aliste Lizarralde

Artists Brandi Roberts and  Inaki Aliste Lizarralde draw the floor plans of TV homes. For example Eddie Monsoon’s townhouse from Absolutely Fabulous; the Golden Girls’ Miami bungalow, Frasier’s Seattle apartment , the NYC apartments from SATC, Friends and the Big Bang Theory and the offices of Stirling Cooper Draper Pryce.

Brandi Roberts sells the prints as art. In her own words:

“Fantasy Floor plans was born out of my love of drawing, pop culture and TV. My hand-drawn floor plans merge Pop Art with celebrity to make art that doesn’t just entertain, but captures the evolution of the American TV home over the last seven decades”.

I hear her! Many times have I tried to imagine the lay-out of Monica and Rachel’s great flat. or the lush place of Frasier in the show of the same name. Or come to think of it, the bungalow of the Golden Girls…. I even considered drawing them out myself on more than one occasion.

But as much as I love this idea, I immediately noticed some errors. I know I know,  jealous much? But may I?

Saffron’s room in Ab Fab for instance… There are several scenes where it is clear that her door is in the middle of the room. Also, the room is in between at least two other rooms as there are also scenes with people passing her room. And Serge’s room is drawn at the left end of the hallway while in the scene where Eddy is considering knocking down the wall it is clear the room is immediately next to hers and the hallway leads straight into the door. But still, what a great idea and damn her for beating me to it……
