Regal recline

Goerge VI liked baths. And he liked to take naps after his baths. He would stretch out on a daybed by TOP French designer of those days, Jacques Adnet. Andre Arbus was inspired by the regal recliner and designed the Du Roi 7391CS chaise for Baker Furniture. The chaise was part of the King’s Bedroom interior at the Palais de l’Elysee, home of the President of the French Republic well into the 20th Century. It´s yours for around $8.500.

$42.000.000 for Jennifer Aniston’s home

Yes, you read that right, and no, I didn’t put in a zero too many……..

Jennifer Aniston is selling her house in, where else, Beverly Hills California and listed it for a heart stopping 42 million dollars. For that you get a lot, but seriously.. $42.000.000? Is it honestly worth that much? Or does it help that Jen is the seller?

The house is massive, and has gorgeous views. It sits on nearly an acre of land and measures around 10,000 square feet with a total of 5 bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms including the staff suite and expansive master bedroom suite with two spa like bathrooms. And to imagine that Miss Aniston is very very single. Maybe that’s why she is moving? 5 bedrooms and 7,5 bathrooms (a half bathroom in Americano speak means just a loo) might be pushing it a bit on your own?

Rumour has it, she is buying three new homes, all in NYC. They are now listed separately, but are adjacent so can be joined and remodeled into one big apartment.

De Nieuwe Liefde Amsterdam

De Nieuwe Liefde

De Nieuwe Liefde (‘The New Love’) is a theatre and spiritual centre in Amsterdam. It is housed in a monumental white building originally constructed in 1904 as storage space for a local wine company.  After falling into disrepair, and after the last tenants leaving the property in 2007, the building, before called De Liefde, was completely rebuilt by Wiel Arets Architects and renamed De Nieuwe Liefde. The new building houses a main hall with seating for 230, a conference room with space for 60, a choir space for 50, a library, a separate restaurant-café and a grand foyer.

With the renovation they made sure to maintain and utilise some of the original Neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau features such as the staircase and extensive stained glass windows throughout. In order to allow natural light to pour in, an expansive skylight was created above the central foyer.

Thin Black Lines

This wonderful chair is part of the Thin Black Lines collection by Japanese design collective Nendo. The items are designed to resemble doodles or sketches floating mid-air.

On their own website they write: “‘Outlines were the theme of the exhibition. Slight black lines like the traces of sketches drawn in the air made transparent surfaces and volumes appear, which we assigned practical functions. The outlines remained after simplifying paintings of plants and animals. They are condensed expressions of meaning, similar to Japanese calligraphy. The designs gently break the relationship of before and behind, and traverse at times the space between two and three dimensions. Multi-faceted and constantly morphing, they move alternately between the becoming and collapse of form.”
