Hunky brit actor sells his modest bungalow

So I heard from Big Mama, of Real Estalker fame, that Jason Statham, an actor we like for the very obvious reasons, is selling his Mid-Century architectural gem above the Sunset Strip.  Listing information shows it has 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, a swimming pool and a smallish yet private and secluded garden.  With 2281 square feet it is modestly sized. But the location is sure going to attract buyers who like to combine the hustle and bustle of the strip with the quiet and calm of the hills. I love those glass-wood-graphic-open style homes. This one reminds me a bit of the home of Colin Firth in A Single Man.

Elizabeth Taylor’s house for sale for $8,6 million

The longtime Bel-Air residence of screen legend Elizabeth Taylor is available for the first time in 30 years. According to a press release issued by Mossler Properties, the realtor in charge of selling the estate.

Owned by the actress since 1981, the immaculate ranch house was a much-loved refuge. “It was the focal point for the family and where we all gathered, especially at Thanksgiving and Easter,” says her son Christopher Wilding. “She never entertained the notion of moving.”

The approx. 7,000-square-foot house hidden by mature foliage sits on 1.27 acres at the top of a long driveway. The spacious living room opens to a den and dining room, all with access to the outdoor terrace and mosaic tile pool. The master bedroom, with high ceilings and walls upholstered in her signature violet, encompasses a large part of the second floor and has treetop views over the city.

The actress, philanthropist and businesswoman, who passed away March 23, added her own sure touches to the 1960s home, which was once owned by Nancy Sinatra Sr. Her superb collection of Impressionist art included works by van Gogh, Degas, Renoir and Pissarro that served as the backdrop to rooms filled with orchids, family photographs, awards and personal memorabilia.

The grounds include an English garden and lawn, a koi pond with waterfall, a hothouse, and a lush “jungle” planted with towering bamboo and palm trees. “She loved the eagle’s nest quality of her bedroom surrounded by nature and the contrast of the wildness with the English flowers,” adds Christopher Wilding. “And she was very hands-on with the gardening—she wanted color in the garden year-round.”

Oops, I’m moving again

What a little rehab and time on the couch can do for you huh? Well, it might not immediately revamp your career but it does make you want to start fresh. Thus proves pop sensation has-been Britney Spears. She reportedly paid $12,900.000 for this ultra-luxurious pad in Hidden Hills California.

Wisteria Lane, home of the Desperate Housewives

White painted fences, french windows, wooden shingles, pretty pastels; Wisteria Lane is everybody’s dream. I know it’s mine. But where is Wisteria Lane, does it exist?

The answer is yes and no.. Wisteria Lane as such doesn’t exist, but there is in fact a street where one can find the homes of DH’s characters Bree, Lynette, Susan and Gabrielle. The street is called Colonial Street and is located on a back lot of Universal Studios in Los Angeles California. As it is a mock street filled with stock materials and sets, many other films and series have been shot making use of the street or sets found there. The Burbs, Psycho, Providence, The New Lassie and The Munsters to name just a few. Further to this Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland and rap artist Nelly recorded the video to their hit single Dilemma on the lot.

Colonial Street has its origins in 1946 when the first few homes were built at Universal Studios for the movie So Goes My Love. However, when the movie wrapped, the sets were placed in storage. A few years later the houses and other sets were all moved outdoors to a mock street named Colonial Street. Among the other sets was the famous Bates Mansion. When Universal Studios Hollywood opened in 1964, the Bates Mansion was one of the most popular attractions. Most of the sets were moved once more in 1981 to their current location.

The house where Wisteria Lane resident Betty Applewhite lived with her two sons during the second season was carefully kept out of frame during season one. This was because it was considered to be too recognizable as the mansion in the popular 1960’s sitcom The Munsters. When they did introduce Betty’s family to Wisteria Lane, they had the house remodeled completely.

In 2005 the street underwent many changes for the second season of Desperate Housewives. The circular end of the street, the so called cul-de-sac where Edie lives was first shown in this season and to make room for Edie’s and other’s homes, a mock church that was featured in Murder She Wrote was removed. Funny enough, an 1988 episode of this popular detective series was called Mourning Among the Wisterias.

Wisteria Lane can be seen in areal view with Google Maps. If you look on map view as opposed to satellite, you won’t see the name of the street. It is simply called Universal Studios back lot.

If you want to see the lot yourself, make sure to visit Universal Studios on your next trip to Los Angeles.
