Shop on TV and movie sets

Say you’re watching Will & Grace and the shirt Will is wearing strikes your fancy, you just have to have Grace’s shoes, or you cannot get your eyes off Jack’s blue vintage sofa. Where to start?

There are a few shops in the greater Los Angeles area and cities like London that sell items worn by characters in famous TV shows. But obviously, online is your best bet. For instance, every now and then e-Bay auctions props or clothes used in TV series or movies. But chances are very very slim that they happen to sell Grace’s shoes or Jack’s sofa.

A few online outlets and initiatives claim they can help you find pretty much any item seen on TV. They must be in frequent touch with set designers, stylists and prop masters in Hollywood to live up to this, or they might just be promising more than they can live up to. Let’s put a few of them to the test.

First of is seenon.com. If you’ve seen it on TV, in a movie, or on a movie star; there’s a chance they know where to find it.  A true pity is that they focus mainly on clothes and accessories and less on decorative items and furniture. However, if you are into fashion,  this site is a true treasure chest. You can look up pretty much any show and then browse articles per character. Grace Adler has over 50 pairs of shoes on here.

They do have information  on Jack’s blue sofa though.

The sofa is Arne Jacobsen’s Swan Sofa, actually designed in 1958. The entire set, including the two chairs, are part of that line. Numerous shops sell this design classic, yet the shop seenon.com links to seems to be sold out. But have a look in Google and you should be able to score one near your home. Further to this sofa, they only offer furniture for three movies. Sex and the City, The Princess Diaries and License to Wed.

Another website is Famous Fashions, again focusing mainly, if not solely, on clothing and accessories.  And the Club World, the US TV network and home to shows like 90210, Gossip Girl and Supernatural will soon launch a feature, Style, where viewers can find shopping information on items worn in the show.

To find fashion donned by the stars proves to be not too hard. To find out where to buy their character’s sofa or vase seems to be a lot harder.

Backlot props, a website auctioning off and listing props used in movies and TV shows offers hope. The orange chairs used in the movie Dukes of Hazard as seen in the below frame can be found through here for example.

Yet a search for other furniture brings back very little result. Yet again it’s mainly clothes that are listed here. Also, the list of movies of which one can browse props is limited.

Star Wars fans can get their kicks on this site.  The aptly called Movieprop.com features many links to certified replica dealers of masks and swords used in this epic science fiction flick and all the episodes and sequels to follow.

Yet for a simple old fashioned guy like myself who likes to know where to buy Will’s stunning faux-antique secretary desk as pictured in the image below, it is a grim grim world.

It’s pretty isn’t it? Maybe I should send an email to the set decorator Melinda Ritz herself?

Spot that TV show

This house featured in a long running series about a white trash family with hearts as big as beer kegs and super size pizza’s. A hint; the actress who starred as one of the daughters has a sister who actually starred as a daughter of a family living in a little house on a prairie somewhere.

who's house is this?

who's house is this?

This house starred in a show where drinking one can of Miller Lite would get you crashing your car into a tree and a short stint in rehab.
"I hope the twins are OK and not out drinking..."

"I hope the twins are OK and not out drinking..."

One of the twins in the show of the previous home later on starred as one of three sisters and got to pretend-live in this house.
It looks spooky.....

It looks spooky.....

And to further emphasize on the sheer incestuous La La land that is Hollywood. One of the three sisters in the original line-up, of the show of the spooky mansion before, started her career as the only child of a woman who’s career has recently been revamped in Ugly Betty. This was the house her character lived in.
Hold me closer, cause I love this house.

Talking of Ugly Betty. Another character on this quirky ‘the Devil Wears Prada-meets-Dynasty’ show used to be married to a fellow that starred as a very annoying character living in this house with a LOT of other people..
I hated this show.

Talking of Dynasty;
That was easy

Let me know if you can guess them all. Whoever posts the correct answers first gets my everlasting respect.

Ashton Kutcher finally ready to commit?

He’s been with Demi for ages, and aren’t they marriedeven? Yet Ashton Kutcher only now decided to put his one time bachelor pad on the market. Maybe they used it as their pied-a-terre away from lovely Idaho where Demi bought a ranch after her divorce from Bruce. Whatever the reason; I have pictures.

Way back when Ashton was in That 70’s show he put down $1,690,000 on a Tudor style manse in, where else, Beverly Hills. The size a modest 4000+ square feet. It is here where the Bush sisters Jenna and Anna or Emma or the other one at least were caught blazin’ up a doobey which caused a bit of a stir Washington side.

The house has 6 bedrooms and 6,5 bathrooms, which I feel is quite a lot for a single guy in his twenties. Also, it actually looks like someone was not sure to go for Mountain resort chic, Knights in armour fancy, English tudor, or Early 60’s housing associations-esque. I mean, I am just not sure about the brown tiles in the stairway….

Christian Lacroix sells his Paris apartment

Look at these wonderful shots of Fashion Designer Lacroix’s wonderful Paris apartment…
Obviously, the decor is stunning. Understated, charming, eclectic and a tad bohemian; I love it.

Great taste Mr Lacroix!

Great taste Mr Lacroix!

The apartment, or actually more or less house, is located in the very plush (and shamelessly gay) Marais district of the French Capital. Whoever is able to dish up the surprisingly modest €2,000,000 will be rubbing elbows with supermodels, photgraphers, designers and thespians from the world over. Also, the Marais has a huge Gay population making this the obvious choice for Mr Lacroix to buy back when.

With approximately 200m2 (2250 square feet) the apartment is not huge for such a high profile figure.
It also looks quite modest, yet so incredibly tasteful it hurts. It is making me just a bit jealous to be honest. It has a patio where we don’t even have a balcony .

The apartment is part of a late-17th-century building near the historic Place des Vosges and the Picasso Museum. It has an upper floor with sitting room, kitchen and general living areas designed around a small patio of roughly 18m2 (200 square feet) and a lower floor with four bedrooms and bathrooms.

There’s also a mezzanine room now used as a library. The ceilings of the living floor are 13 feet high which allows for a very roomy and dramatic ambience. Throughout the place one can find many classic original details, including gilded moldings in the master bedrooms and French doors. The bathrooms and kitchen have been recently renovated. Mr. Lacroix has moved to another apartment just a few steps away in the same fabulous Marais district.
