Picture book collages by Dieuwertje

In a garden studio in the Northern part of the Dutch Capitol Amsterdam, Dutch designer Dieuwertje van de Moosdijk finds inspiration for her art. The word designer might not be covering her metier completely. Dieuwertje could easily be considered a stylist, illustrator, decorator and creator as her work fits so many purposes it´s hard to stick a label on it. Oh, and she writes too!

The outside world nature in particular, but urban scenes too, inspire her the most. Clouds, sheep, flowers, fields; they are often part of her work. Yet occasionally a small French car, an interior or even a caravan play a cameo in the images. And every item is hand-made. Candy wrappers, wallpaper samples, bits of fabric, photographs, drawings and even bits of her mother’s wedding dress find their ways to the collages. “I like to see the ruggedness in my products. All my work is done by hand rather than by computer. Long live scissors and the glue gun!”.

Her work finds it’s way as illustrations in magazines, books or the web, or by mail to notify lucky recipients of births, weddings and parties.

Craig, Daniel Craig’s TriBeCa loft.

At a wopping $1694 per square foot this place better hide some gold or cash somewhere. I guess for NYC standards it is actually not too bad, but being used to already steep Amsterdam prices this does sound like a hefty price to pay. Especially considering the place has just one bedroom. No plans for family expansion just yet for ripped Mr Bond and his long time girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell. Guests will have to sleep on the sofa, but they do have their own full bath.

It looks gorgeous though.

Craig reportedly paid $1.900.000 for the place.

The GaGa princess of Bel Air

Despite hailing from the city that never sleeps, and therefore likely not counting Lalaland as an option, pop marvel Lady GaGa is renting west coast. According to rumour she is spending $25,000 a month on a 6 bedroom mansion high up in the hills above posh Bel Air, boasting stunning views of smog filled skies.

I hope she is going to glam up the place a bit as it looks very much unloved.  Stefani, as she is really called, has no intention to move there permanently and is not selling her NYC pad. It is merely a retreat for when she needs to be in California.

Fold your bowl

A recent article about my home on Apartment Therapy featured a picture of our fruit bowl. It’s a plastic/polymer bowl that we bought as a flat sheet. The edges are cut out to resemble a Dutch skyline with windmills, canal houses and draw bridges. Once put on the table the shadow cast by either sun or lamp shows the skyline on your table.

Many people asked me where I got it and who designed it. Margriet Foolen was responsible for the design, and I bought this bowl at Thinking of Holland. A dutch design shop I posted about earlier. It is available through their webshop and only costs € 22,-.
