It reminded me of the Maison Bulles house for Pierre Cardin on the French south coast. And it reminded me of another real live version of the Flinstones’ home. Either way, this is a clever piece of work. The owner built this wonderful little home for as little as $8.000. His name is Steve Areen, once a flight attendant for Delta, now non conventional entrepeneur making money with music, photography, blogging and, as this project shows, by saving money on living costs. He used materials sources from the local area and did most of the work himself saving on labour costs. It took him only 6 weeks nonetheless.

According to the forecast of famous trendwatcher Lidewij Edelkoort, Middle Ages inspired interiors and accessories are the new trend for 2014. Voluminous details, rich textures and deep, rich colours as if dyed by hand. And think woods, grey slates, bricks walls, brass accessories and rugs. Here a mood board compiled with pictures I found online.

Here the large window, matte painted wall, rugs and chandelier are obviously inspired by interiors from the Middle Ages

Mediaeval Inspired Kitchen

Bold colours in a sober design scheme

But this interior design also took inspiration from Mediaeval times. The curved brick ceiling is reminiscent of (and maybe even is) that of an old dungeon
Pied-de-poule (chicken’s foot) or houndstooth in English is a duotone textile pattern characterized by broken checks or abstract four-pointed shapes, often in black and white, although other colours are used.

I know, I know, I am hopelessly late as this trend has been going on since forever, but I still love this graphic pattern in the home.
