Harrison Ford puts his Hollywood manse on the market

Hollywood buff Harrison Ford and his much younger (and thinner) wife Calista Flockhart, are selling their Hollywood home. The Country Colonial, designed by Beverly Hills favourite Gerard Colcord, was bought by Mr Ford and his ex-wife in 1983. I guess La Flockhart wanted to get rid of all the bad ex-wife vibes that lingered in the place, but I bet Mr Ford is sadly saying his goodbyes as the place is wonderful.

The house has a lot of charm and most likely he designed and fitted some of the many clever shelves and units. After all, before he went into acting, Harrison Ford was a carpenter and cabinet-maker. It was built in the 1950’s but looks as if it is much older and oozes character! And the views of Los Angeles are breath-taking. With al that smog maybe literally….

The actor and the old Mrs Ford bought the 7000+ square feet (700 m2) for around $1.000.000 which is peanuts now.  The house is on the market for $8.295.000 which means a healthy profit is in the cards. The happy couple need some extra cash as their new home has set them back $12.650.000…..

Illuminated bed Poesy

With this bed you don’t need a night lamp by your bed anymore. It is illuminated!
It changes colour and can be programmed to wake you up too! It was designed by Philippe Boulet, a young French designer who caught the attention of Philippe Starck when he was still in art school. He already won several important awards for his designs. The bed is called Poesy and costs around €6877

Great photography sells a home!

In an older post I already touched the subject; how good photography sells a house. Or rather, how bad photography doesn’t! People hunting for homes usually look online first. The very first thing they see of a potential home is a picture. If that picture doesn’t immediately grab their attention, chances of them buying the house are slim. I have a hard time understanding realtors who don’t live up to this golden rule. Why would a rule that applies to groceries, cars, clothes etc not apply to what might very well be the most expensive purchase ever?

Somebody who understands this is Dennis van Duijn of O Kijk! Panografie. He specializes in panoramic photography, and puts his talents to use for presentations of homes for sale as well as museums, restaurants and hotels. A recent project he shot, a houseboat in Rotterdam, sold  within a matter of weeks after it was put on the market. I am pretty sure the presentation had something to do with it. The price, a friendly € 315.000,- might have had something to do with it too; but that’s Rotterdam for you! A similar boat in Amsterdam would have set you back an easy €150.000 more.

Nate Berkus’ show canceled

Bad news for fans of pretty guys and interior decorating. The Nate Berkus show is no more. Or, will be no more as Sony and Harpo decided to pull the plug on it. This was announced just before the new year, just after my post about Nate’s own home.

Nate got his lucky break as a regular guest advising on home decorating on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
