One of NYC’s most expensive apartments for sale at $65.000.000

It’s the most expensive Co-op apartment ever in NYC. But whoever has this much cash available, or gets his bank to join in, will not regret it. A whooping 12000 square feet (which is about 1200 m2) and so many terraces that one was converted in an outdoor ice skating rink for a party once. The owner, Grammy Nominated songwriter Denise Rich (what’s in a name), is selling it as she suffers from empty nest syndrome. I wonder, with a house this big, if you even notice if your housemates are home or out…..

The apartment comprises two floors with a total of 19 rooms, amazing views of the whole of Central Park a professional recording studio, gym and billiard room and several kitchens and full bathrooms.

At $5.400 per square foot, it’s actually quite a lot ‘cheaper than the record condo — not co-op — price of $13,000 per square foot, which is what former Citigroup Chairman Sandy Weill’s triplex at 15 Central Park West recently sold for. I have yet to figure out what exactly is the difference between an co-op and condo, but my guess is it has to do with full ownership? Anyhow; not intending to buy either anytime soon so plenty of time to worry about that later.

Cleverly designed prefabs for the less fortunate

Sometimes great plans are just destined to take form. The prefab homes of young designer/architect Brett Zamore for instance. For his thesis at Rice University School of Architecture  he rehabilitated an old mansion in his alma mater Houston, Texas. This caught the attention of Architecture for Humanity who commissioned him to design an easy to build home in Biloxi Mississippi for people who lost their home to hurricane Katrina. This again inspired him to start designing a line of prefab homes specifically for those who might not be able to afford regular new-builds. The result, two designs, called up+dn, were sold to various companies building affordable homes for the financially challenged. Families all over the Southern States are now happily living in his homes.

I particularly like the shutters and porch on the homes in the images below. They are reminiscent of long sweltering summer evenings in the South where people drink cool mint juleps and wave fans in their faces. The colour scheme makes for a luxury feel and give the homes a chic appearance.

What does the house of design expert Nate berkus look like?

Design guru Nate Berkus, of Oprah Winfrey fame, can look back, and likely forward, on a magnificent career in Interior Design. Since he started his own company in 1995, he designed some of the most prestigious interiors in the United States and abroad. After Oprah picked him up to be the design expert on her show, there was no holding back. Nate is an established name in the world of interiors. And he is cute too…

Ever wondered how this talented guy would decorate his own home? Well, we’re in luck as he recently put his Chicago condo on the market. Lot’s of stunning images to gawk at!

I love how the house looks accidentally fabulous as opposed to designed. What do you think?

Thanks Elle Decor for the images and Hookedonhouses for the original post!

Waking up in a dumpster

It sounds like the morning after a bender with a few drinks too many. However, if you ask Berkeley California-based Gregory Kloehn it can be a regular morning ritual. Gregory managed to fit an entire home in a dumpster.  And,  in line with Bay Area standards (at least to my knowledge from living there back in the late Nineties) the home is fit with hardwood floors and granite counter tops. In this video Gregory tells us all.

Hunky brit actor sells his modest bungalow

So I heard from Big Mama, of Real Estalker fame, that Jason Statham, an actor we like for the very obvious reasons, is selling his Mid-Century architectural gem above the Sunset Strip.  Listing information shows it has 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, a swimming pool and a smallish yet private and secluded garden.  With 2281 square feet it is modestly sized. But the location is sure going to attract buyers who like to combine the hustle and bustle of the strip with the quiet and calm of the hills. I love those glass-wood-graphic-open style homes. This one reminds me a bit of the home of Colin Firth in A Single Man.

It’s on the market for $2,749,000

Where celebrities live

I have always been a big fan of real estate and maps and everything that would show me how other people live. I would read real estate brochures, developers plans, atlasses etcetera. The internet brought me floorpans, real estate websites from all over the world, maps and everything, a few mouse clicks away.  I was the happiest camper imaginable. But it got even better! Then there was Google Maps…. the best invention since sliced bread!  Zoom in, zoom out, see how close or how far one lives to a highway or motorway. Is there public transport nearby? Do they have nice views? What’s the garden like? Do they have a pool? Are they close to the outdoors? What type of building is next door?

But the real icing on the Google Maps cake is that I can unleash the stalker in me….With Google maps one can see anyone’s house from above.. that’s right, anyone’s, so that includes celebrities. Yes my friends, Google Maps can let you stalk people from the privacy of your own home. Bless the world wide web, can I hear an AMEN!

Here’s Madonna’s UK hideaway in the English countryside…

And here’s Oprah house in Montecito California.

Funny thing that… the houses next to hers look tiny yet those must be massive too.

John Travolta really has an airstrip right in his back yard. It’s not an urban myth.

He lives in an enclosed community with it’s private airstrip as seen on the left of the picture. The town is called Jumbolair…. That just doesn’t have a romantic ring to it….

Lesser names seem to do well too. Lori Loughlin has raked in enough big bucks between Full House and 90210 to afford this little number in the Hollywood Hills.

It might look smallish compared to the ones before, but if you look inside you’ll see that is is actually a fairly decent house for an ex Full House star. Jody Sweetin, who annoyed the world as Stephanie Tanner, reportedly lives here

To show you that I am aware it is not very nice to blatantly reveal such privacy sensitive information I would like to share with you where I myself live.

I do hope you will all respect my privacy. But if you insist to stalk. I put out the trash on Monday and Friday mornings.
